Christian Aid

Remember all you people out there that week 3 this term is Christian Aid week (If this issue of Christis comes out after week three, which won’t be too much of a surprise when in comparison to the last few, then I suppose you may be excused for ignoring what follows, but there’s always next year).

This year we’ll be having a lot more events throughout the week than in previous years and we are hoping that we might be able to break the one thousand pound barrier.

A list of what will be happening and what you can get involved in follows:

We’re hoping there’ll be collecting tins at events all over campus during the week (Bops, bars, Filmsoc films, etc.) where anyone can hand over their loose change.

Envelopes will be delivered to doors, as per usual, at the beginning of the week and then members of the Christian societies (and anyone else if they want to) will be collecting them at the end of the week (except in Langwith and Derwent where we are relying on people to bring their envelopes to stalls that shall be set up at lunch time for several days in the week because we have not been allowed to collect door to door).

We are planning to have a “hunger lunch” every day throughout the week where you can come and eat a simple “third world” meal for the price of a normal canteen one (we don’t have student subsidies though).

There’ll be a Barn Dance in aid of Christian Aid held in Heslington Church at 8:30 on Sunday the 12th of May. It should be really good (refreshments available) and everyone is welcome.

Lastly but not leastly, sponsor forms should already be out for the Sponsored Nothing-in-Particular. This involves getting lots of sponsors (and so money) and not doing anything in particular which saves time and effort as nobody really cares what you actually do in most sponsored events anyway.

Well that’s about all for this year — although alterations may happen between writing this and Christis coming to print, so try and check up with someone in the know around the time.

Remember there is a serious side to Christian Aid but you can still have fun collecting or giving the money.
