Welcome to the Christmas Issue! It’s that time of year again (and other clichés) when people come out with their jokes like “wasn’t it amazing that Jesus should be born on Christmas day?” It is interesting to think though (oh no, here comes the profound bit) that there is a one in three hundred and sixty fifth chance that Jesus was actually born on December the 25th. He could have been born today while everybody is going about their normal, everyday business and not giving Jesus another thought. This seems far more fitting with the actual anonymity surrounding Jesus’ birth, doesn’t it? The fact that we took over a pagan winter festival as a convenient time to celebrate Christ’s birth is also a major thinking point. Granted it was an excellent symbol of the conversion to Christianity, however in these days of commerciality at Christmas, do we have any right to condemn the revert to ‘Paganism’ when they were here first??
Hmmmn points to ponder folks. Hope you enjoy the festivities whatever your view. See you in the new year. (‘1992 and all that’)
