Ready? And waiting? Well, here is the editorial… From J.C.!

The Earth is the Lord’s and everything in it.

Psalm 24

Welcome to Christis Issue 15 and I hope this finds even the finalists not too stressed out this early in the term. As usual we hope to challenge and inspire you on a number of themes but in particular this issue we are looking at the concept of One World, featured in our Thinker slot and relevant to several of the articles. Not only is this SCM’s theme for the Summer Term, but it is also a very important consideration for all people at the moment — having reached 1992, Europe may be more united but are we shutting out the rest of the world? — and the discovery of a thinning of the ozone layer for which our civilisation is so culpable but which, like acid rain, threatens the innocent and the guilty alike is a frightening reminder of our responsibility for the planet and duty to all its people.

Not that it’s all doom and gloom — the links of trade and culture are exciting and schemes for cooperation and help are widespread, which conveniently brings me to the subject of Christian Aid Week in week 3 — just in case, for probably the fist time in its history, the first summer issue of Christis comes out before the end of Christian Aid Week, I’d just like to ask you to think about the importance of their work. It is so tempting to shut ourselves off from the rest of the world because we don’t think we can be of any use — but it isn’t true.

Finally, I’ve come to the usual plea for support for Christis itself — not only do we welcome all articles written from a Christian perspective and promise to print all your letters, but we’d also like your contributions for the next issue’s Thinker — just 25–50 words on “What is the point of theology?” Please send any contributions to the Christis pigeon hole in the SU corridor in Goodricke. Now all that remains is for me to wish you a very happy Summer Term and hope you enjoy your reading!
