What is the point of Theology?

It depends on what sort of theology — there’s no point to academic theology, but there’s a lot of point to lifestyle theology!
For some the point of theology is just an academic exercise just like any other subject to be studied. For others it is a way of finding out more about religions, especially Christianity and the Bible. In my view it should aim to reveal more about God’s character more clearly to the general public.
Without theology we risk divorcing the intellect from religion, which would obstruct the development of a strongly-rooted faith for many people.
I suppose the point of theology lies in making your own decision about the existence of God the almighty creator and God the personal friend — if you can grasp both, you’ve got theology well wrapped up.
C. S. Lewis once said ‘is theology poetry?’. Unfortunately I have forgotten his answer: my reasoning suggests theology to be more akin to literary criticism. Scripture is poetry; to be studied, yes, but also to be sung.
