Christian Leaders Tell What They’re Made Of

Seventy percent water and eight pints of blood?

The all-new singing, dancing Christian Leaders were instantly put to the test with this series of tremendously brainbusting questions:

  1. Who are you?
  2. What are you doing, and how far have you got?
  3. Which college suffers from your infamy?
  4. Give us your life story. In less than 25 words.
  5. Which eleven hunky lads do you support? Or which football team?
  6. What would you least like to be quoted as saying?
  7. What is your all-time fave song/hymn/chorus/Gregorian chant?
  8. What church/churches do you attend?
  9. What post do you hold?
  10. What have you thought of the job so far?
  11. What do you see as the purpose of your society?
  12. A Christian student society has many elements (e.g.. fellowship, evangelism, challenging its members). What do you see as the most important element of your society?
  13. What challenges do you think that University life presents to Christians?
  14. Answer one of the following:
    1. Do you think that the didactic form of the Schrödinger wave equation succinctly summaries the post-modern sociological shift from the assonant to the dissonant, the epistemological to the secular and the dualistic to the Arsenal? Answer with respect to St. Anselm’s ontological proof and Keynesian microeconomics. Or:
    2. What is your favourite fish?

1. Andrew Filby.

2. Theoretical Physics — second year.

3. Vanbrugh. Where else could a Christis beanbag come from?

4. I came, I saw, I laughed.

5. Coventry City (lets hear it for big Ron)

6. “Oh yes, I’ll stand for Christis beanbag.”

7. A good old C.U. favourite — Great is the Lord.

8. St. Michael-le-Belfry.

9. Christis Beanbag.

10. I haven’t had time to have any thoughts about the job. It’s as much as I can manage just to do it.

11. Christis is a medium through which issues that people perceive to be pertinent to Christianity , both on campus and in the world at large, can be freely discussed and debated.

12. To inform and stimulate debate so as to combat ignorance and break down the prejudices that can exist between Christians at the university.

13. University life can often be hectic and varied with many commitments to sap our time and energy. Through all of this, I think the greatest difficulty we have as Christians is to remain focussed on God, giving him the time to communicate his will to us.

14.b. Kippers!!

1. Suzanne Roberts.

2. History/Economic and Social History. First year.

“That Joel Payne, he’s all right.”

7. “Dizzy” — The Wonder Stuff.

8. Bury St. Edmonds (where I come from, it’s gorgeous), West Road Church, true and sound brethren upbringing. York, St. Michael-le-Belfry, well what can I say.

10. Lamentations 3:22–23. God is sooo good, His compassions never fail. If you’d really like to know more, come and ask me.

11. To glorify God.

12. GOD. If we love God, His word, His Spirit, His Son as our sole focus and greatest desire we won’t be able to help becoming more like Him, being challenged, having a true sense of fellowship and most importantly drawing others to Christ.

13. I think that the biggest challenge of university is the same as the rest of life. How much do you really love and desire God and His purposes for you? More than friendships? More than getting a good job? More than being happy and comfortable? More than enjoying life? More than drinking? More than yourself? What is your greatest love?

14.a. You Christis boys are a rum lot, aren’t you?

5. I prefer rugby — from a woman’s point of view this is more interesting to watch!!!!!!

6. “_________ the C.U.”!!!!

7. Be Thou My Vision O Lord of my Life.

8. Acomb Christian Fellowship/Milltown Baptist, Belfast.

9. Female president of Christian Union.

10. A lot of hard work — yet God has taught me so much.

11. To bring Christians to maturity in Jesus Christ. To enthuse people in evangelism. To bring glory to God.

12. Mission and Maturity.

13. University life is so cosmopolitan it is very easy for the edges of Christianity to become hazy — the largest challenge, therefore, is for Christians to be totally on fire for God and sticking to Godly principles.

[Christis yet again notes that we have a response to each part of question 14. However, as the one to part a is merely an observation, we’ll let it go. This time.]
