These verses mean a lot to me, and I feel unworthy to write anything about them really. But even if you don’t read my bit, at least read this and think about what it says:
I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no-one but he himself knows. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron sceptre.” He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:
KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS
Revelation 19:11–16
Whenever I read this passage I am struck with a sense of how awesome our Lord is. A lot of people I’ve met think that Jesus was a ‘nice man’, who taught a good moral code, but was a bit confused about his identity. But this passage shows Jesus in his true light, leading the armies of heaven with power and authority. It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking of Jesus in his role as our friend and brother, and forgetting what a mighty God and King he truly is. But how much encouragement we can find in reminding ourselves of Who it is we follow, Who it is who holds our lives in His hands.
But the most incredible thing for me, as I read this passage, has to be the fact that one day I will be face to face with this King. He is coming back, and every knee shall bow, and every tongue shall confess Him as Lord. What more can I say??
