Christian Leaders Questionnaire

The deepest thoughts of the new Christian leaders

What’s your name?
Danny Baker
What’s your post?
Co-Leader of CIS
What’s the best thing about your college?
The fact that it’s central on campus (Goodricke)
What do you see as the aims of your society?
Our society aims to be evangelistic, in reaching non-Christians through a common link with them — that is our love of sport.
What do you see as being the way forward for your society in the coming year?
Everything needs to be backed in prayer. Then to encourage those sporty Christians to get involved so that they can be encouraged to be a real witness to their team mates.
What do you think of the England cricket team?
They’ve got the best captain in Mike Atherton (as he does play for Lancashire!) The team as a whole needs to be encouraged and supported instead of always being criticised.
How many hours do you spend spodding daily?
Only about 4!
What’s your favourite fish?
Salmon

What’s your name?
Paul Read

Christis Beanbag although I see myself as more of a chaise longue. Or maybe a loveseat …

What do you see as the aims of your society?
To be a forum for debate amongst Christians (and non-Christians!) on any issue broadly related to Christianity …
What do you see as being the way forward for your society in the coming year?
I want to see Christis trying to reach a wider readership, and involving Christians in a broad range of issues, to challenge a few assumptions and maybe get something positive done along the way. There are plenty of issues to tackle, here under our noses, so to speak.
What’s your favourite hymn/song?
Be Thou My Vision, especially as sung by Van ‘The Man’ Morrisson. Else Creep by Radiohead, or anything else by them, really. Thom Yorke has ‘it’!
What do you think of the England cricket team?
Bring back Botham! And Freddie Truman! And W.G. Grace!
How many hours do you spend spodding daily?
Rather too many, unfortunately! Usually doing Christis, I might add …
What’s your favourite fish?
I think it must be the Grey Mullet. There’s a whole book on ’em in the library: Aquaculture of the Grey Mullet. A thumping good read. Thoroughly recommended for all whose knowledge of this exciting genus is a bit sketchy.

Langwith — either the scarves or the interesting things they have bubbling away in pots in the snack bar. Indistinguishable but tasty.
What do you see as the aims of your society?
“To explore Christianity in an open, challenging and friendly way”, which means, to me, that we should all feel free to express our views but should also accept that these may be very different. Discuss and agree that we may disagree, I suppose.
What do you see as being the way forward for your society in the coming year?
I said at the AGM that I wanted to see Meth-Ang continue in the way that it is going, or something equally wuss-sounding! But really that’s about right. I joined Meth-Ang because they’re just a friendly, welcoming bunch and I’d like to see that continue within the society and through links to other societies here and nationwide.
What’s your favourite hymn/song?
Favourite song: Sullivan Street by Counting Crows, favourite hymn Be Still For The Presence Of The Lord.
What do you think of the England cricket team?
I think the English Cricket Team shouldn’t wear white ’cause it’s impractical (my flat-mate says I’m being a mother for saying this!) I also think a cricket ball hitting a bat is one of the most groovy sounds ever.
How many hours do you spend spodding daily?
The only spodding I really do is sending email — so about an hour a day on electronic gossip.
What’s your favourite fish?
The skate, ’cause anything that flat that is still alive must be cool.
