Christis Thinker
What relevance has Christmas in today’s society?

- Just one present between so many people doesn’t
sound very good in today’s terms, until you take a
closer look at the present. It’s quality, not quantity,
that counts!
- Society’s Christmas is merely a day in December
preventing a jump from the 24th to the 26th.
- I think the retail industry must find it relevant...
- A time to eat, drink, and be merry with little spiritual
significance.
- For Christians, it’s a celebration of the birth of
our saviour, and a reminder of our duty of solidarity and
generosity to those excluded and oppressed by the wider
social conception of Christmas which is little more than a
celebration of indulgence, family, and excess in food and
alcohol.
- It makes a lot of people who are already rich even
richer.
- It assumes little relevance and that is the important
point to address. Let’s evangelise by singing
over-played commercialised carols now.
- It’s the one time in the year when people are
willing to go to Church and might actually be open to the
gospel. Let’s make the most of it!
