Eh Oop! There’s Things Afoot in T’C.U.

A ray of hope …flickers in the sky …

Since there have been many and varied (and some would say exciting) changes occurring in our beloved Christian Union, they’ve availed themselves of the opportunity to let you know all about them in the hallowed pages of Christis. Read ye onward …

Firstly we would like to encourage you to get involved at a college level. If you’re not a member of a small group (Bible study and the like) and would like to be, contact your college rep who will sort you out:

Prayer

We know that when we get together and pray, great things happen. Therefore we are trying to focus on God’s plans through regular prayer. The main prayer meetings are as follows:

Every other Friday (Weeks 4, 6 etc)
8pm D/056, half night of prayer
Tuesday and Thursday
8am early morning prayer meetings in D/056 also
Saturday
6pm V/044, prayer for the Saturday meeting

It would also be great to get involved in a prayer triplet, which is an excellent way of supporting each other. Contact College Reps for details. Also we’re tryng to set up Dept. Prayer groups. To find out whether your subject has one, or if you want to start one yourself please contact Sarah Scott (sls102)

International

To find out more about the CU’s work with International Students, please talk to the International Team (Meg Ono mo102, Gillian Pang mhgp100, Danny Filice dmf102 and Ruth Newnham rean100). Anyone interested in a prayer group for a particular country or region please contact Ruth.

Tuesday
1:15pm Langwith Dining Hall, lunch together
Tuesday Week 8
International Student’s Easter Event

Evangelism

Evangelism is very much an ongoing thing, and we will be using Mission Week (Week4) to make sure that various initiatives are started and keep going. So if you have any ideas, want to help with bar evangelism or, if you have a friend who would benefit from a Discovering Christianity Group (DC) or from the Alpha Course contact David Stark (das104).

Social Action

There is a Social Action Newsletter, produced by Kathy Boadle (kgb100), circulating, which is to suggest various ways which you can get involved in social action projects, if you’re not already. Contact Kathy with ideas or requests for information.

Resources

Phil Laws (pml101) has been doing a great job organising all the different resources we have available. If you want help or information on a topic, or even if you’re just bored (there might be someone) see Phil and he will bring more joy to your life.

If you don’t know any of us on the committee, hopefully we will soon get to know you. If you want to contact us, don’t hesitate to e-mail socs25@york.ac.uk. All of us in the CU are here to encourage each other in our faith, and we pray that this will continue to be the case. Don’t forget, God is doing exciting things.

God Bless,

UYCU Committee:
Mike, Katya, Sarah, Vicky, Adrian, Ruth, Danny and David
