Easter is coming round again. What is it worth? We have got someone and something to get excited about! What an impossible thing God has done for us … that we have such a precious and wonderful Saviour, who was punished on the Cross for our Sins and ROSE FROM THE DEAD for our justification! For our God nothing is impossible, he has the right and power to change the laws of nature to prove his divinity. This miracle of God’s power over death encourages us, because the dying Saviour seized hold of eternal life for me and you, on that resurrection day. The word of God gives us fresh hope that we too will be raised to glory. “Listen, I tell you a mystery: we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed — in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and the mortal clothed with immortality.” 1 Corinthians 15:51–53. When we rise from the dead, as Christians, we will inherit a resurrection body like that of the Lord Jesus, imagine that!

To gain this resurrection what must we do? Hebrews 11:6 states “Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him”. There is much in Scripture which encourages us to seek God; this is our responsibility. Often I have neglected to spend time praying with the Lord and being in his Word. Then after a few days I start to feel a little alone. No wonder if I am grieving the Spirit of God! The Psalmist says in Psalm 119:11:

I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you

We must become seekers after the Wisdom that is Jesus Christ, in order to gain the resurrection. For us this means a daily walk with God, as Enoch had (Genesis 5:24).

The Lord Jesus has bought us at an immense cost, even his own blood. Until we come into line with his will we should not have any peace. For in John 14:27 Jesus tells his disciples “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give it as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” Do you want to be raised to glory? Do I want it? Do you want the peace given by the Holy Spirit to God’s followers? Do I want that? Then let us seek the Lord. Augustine wrote some very good words regarding the human heart: “Thou hast made us for Thyself, and our heart is restless until it rest in Thee”, Augustine, Confessions, Book I page 1.

This week heralds Matthew Stallabrass’ favourite week — The SU election week! What do we, as Christians, need to be thinking about at this time? First the SU elections are important in shaping the future of the university. The SU’s mission statement asserts that the SU exists to promote and defend the interest of its membership and future membership, within the university and as part of the wider community. As such, it would seem to be a significant practical concern for Christians to be involved in the whole process of election and government. What better way to salt campus than to add seasoning to the SU with Christian input and ideals, not just in elections, but throughout the year? Vote anyway — even if you only vote for RON — I’m sure that will make him a happy chappy.
