Just in case you were asleep for the first 4 weeks of term, IONA came to play for us!!! Iona is a Christian band which plays folk/rock music. They’ve been together since 1989 and they chose their name from the island, Iona, which was their original inspiration. Their music is really cool (not that we’re biased or anything!), so if you didn’t come, you missed out!
The songs are based around the Celtic tradition of prayer. They focus on the idea that God is incorporated into the world around us; he is an inextricable part of our lives. One of Iona’s goals is that just as their inspiration was the beauty of the island, Iona, we will be inspired by the beauty of God’s creation — our continual reminder of his everlasting love for us.
One of the songs, Encircling, was about how the holy spirit surrounds and protects us. God encircles us in his love, with “bonds that can never be broken”. (From the gospel according to Graham Kendrick)
The light of God surrounds me
The love of God enfolds me
The power of God protects me
The prescence of God watches over me
Wherever I am God is
