God calls us to “take up the cross daily” and follow him. I’ve been a Christian for about five years now and this scripture has called and spoken to me with greater conviction since I came to university. Since being at university, I have marvelled at what God has done in my life; the people I’ve met and the situation he’s put me in.
For the past two summers I’ve had the privilege of working at a Christian children’s camp in America. I was a cabin counsellor, looking after groups of around one to 20 children. Many of the children came from inner city areas and had no knowledge about God nor a conception of Christianity. The work was hard at times, but it really taught me to rely on God and to trust in his love and purpose. It was great to see the children responding to what they had learnt, heard and seen in such a short space of time. To many of the children the camp atmosphere was totally different to what they had experienced at home and you could see the change God was working in their lives.
For those who are considering going to America with camp America or Bmac I would definitely recommend it. It’s a great way to see America, make new friends(!), and to serve God.
