A Testimony to God’s Saving Power

Well, what can I say? This is the first time I have ever written for Christis — maybe my first time ever for a magazine. You could say I’m not experienced. But I do have a testimony to tell; a story inside of my heart. This is it:

JESUS IS EVERYTHING TO ME!!!!!

Well, that’s the most important bit, anyway. And that’s the bit which everything else I write comes back to. He is Wonderful! He is my Saviour, my Friend, my Lover, my Helper, my God, and my King. He is Awesome and I tremble at His feet; and He is Gentle and I rest in His arms. He is the very Reason I exist, and the very Source of my life. Today is the 21st of April 1997, 18:56hrs. My article is due in today! Tomorrow will be the 22nd of April 1997. Next week it will be the 28th of April 1997. Pretty soon I’ll be married — on the 26th of July 1997. Not long before the year 2000. In fact the 80s seem like only yesterday. One day it will be the 2080s. Time DOES go on and I DO miss opportunities which WILL never come again. I’m amazed I’m in my second year of my degree, and that I’m 21. Can YOU remember what you were doing when I was writing this article?

Now, I know I’m not the only one who puts things off till tomorrow. Whether you follow Christ or not, it’s standard in this day and age to be very busy, and yet through all the busyness it seems to me I never achieve anything! I come to the end of a year and think what REALLY have I achieved? All I know is there is still MORE I desire. And it’s not to do with careers or sport or study; I do enough of them. The only thing which satisfies my thirst is this: The knowledge of God. The Bible puts it like this:

Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; And you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, And your labour on what does not satisfy? Listen, LISTEN to me, and eat what is good, And your soul will delight in the richest of fare.

You can read that in Isaiah 55:1–2. The Good News is this: You need not be lonely; you need not come to the end of your lives and wonder what it was all about, feeling empty. There IS a purpose and there IS a wonderful God who delights to freely give us food which will finally satisfy the longing of our hearts. All it takes is for us to turn away from “what is not bread”, from “what does not satisfy” — our selfishness, our own desires and ambitions — and to turn to God, who is HIMSELF “the richest of fare”.

In writing this, I have both convicted and inspired myself! It’s 19:22hrs now, and I shall go home and spend time more preciously than any other way, in the presence of Almighty God, worshipping Him. I pray that God inspires and convicts your hearts as you read this, whether you follow Christ or not, or if you have done but don’t anymore, for I know He is jealous for your affections. He loves you more than you could ever imagine. Just look at the Cross! Do not put Him off till tomorrow. You OWE Him your very life and your very being. And it is SOOOOOOO WONDERFUL to minister to Him!!! It is what we were created for. It is “the richest of fare”.

Jesus said: “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For MY yoke is easy and MY burden is light.”
