The Lawn ’98

Claire Heath reviews the CU Evangelistic event

Saturday week 5 dawned cool and moist but with a hopeful clear sky. The CU having frantically laid hold of the promise And Elijah prayed and it did not rain for seven years and also he is like the light of morning at sunrise on a cloudless morning, like the brightness after rain that brings the grass from the earth.

Around 2pm Hes Lawn started to fill up with people as frisbee, rounders and football matches got underway and for the less energetically minded there was lots of beautiful lush grass to sit on and have a good chin-wag. Later on in the afternoon Kato — a super-cool amazing band played (they’ve played at Greenbelt so they must be famous!) followed by a short talk by Ken Matthews on why it’s great to be Scottish …

Oh, sorry, no that’s wrong — it was about the fact that we should be thinking about why we’re here on the earth and why it’s important to check out the claims of Christ and then either: a) put us bunch of deluded religious fanatics to silence; or b) recognise that God is going to call all men to account for everything they’ve done on this earth and to do something about it (if you don’t know what that is email socs25@york.ac.uk (the CU) and we’ll gladly give you the low-down).

This was followed by an incredible massive barbeque which a dedicated team of workers had been slaving over preparing all afternoon (no, really, it was nothing … !).

God gave us a beautiful day weather-wise — a dry oasis in a desert of rain showers (excuse the inversion) — and many people turned up and hopefully were challenged by the message of the gospel. If you were one of those people and want more info or to clear up any questions, again please email us or grab one of us.

It was amazing how it all came together. A big thanks to all those who helped and to God for being the best which is why it was worth it.
