The season to be jolly tralalalalala — I forget how many la’s … With the risk of sounding like one of those people who goes on about the true meaning of Christmas (which is usually eating Asda’s mince pies, or drinking port with family, or even remembering people who can’t afford 3 cars and two houses) it is important that we don’t get carried away with the stresses and strains of the festive season.
Instead, rather than wallowing in self indulged stress … “oh my goodness … only 30 more shopping days till Christmas”, let us consider what Christmas is really about. Jesus, the Son of God is why we celebrate Christmas. Don’t worry this is not where I launch into any sort of Bible bashing, but let us just reflect. Jesus was born as our Saviour (this is as I see it). He taught about love, and forgiveness, was kind to children and mixed with the social rejects of the time. As we run around like headless turkeys let us bear this in mind. Think about those who won’t enjoy Christmas this year — Children who are victims of violence, broken families or abuse. Think about the homeless, cold, fed up. Think about poorer countries, war-torn and pulled to pieces, the list goes on.
Then let us approach Christmas with a more sober attitude, and think how lucky we are to be able to celebrate in such a way.
On a lighter note, I hope you enjoy this multi-article edition (yip … more than one article got to me before the deadline) … enjoy the poems, reviews and the rest of it. The Christis Committee wish you a very Happy Christmas and hope to see you all at our meetings next term.
