Christis Comment Corner

Happy new year to you all! Finally the headless-turkey feeling of Christmas has almost subsided, leaving us with the after-taste of thank you letters for what we seem to classify as ‘nice’ presents. And here we are in a new term. As I wondered what to write in these welcoming paragraphs, I admit I was unsure what to write about. Then it came to me that this is a term of lots of changes, decisions and sometimes worries. It is around this time that societies change their leadership — congrats to the new Christis committee by the way.

First years realise that university accommodation (thank goodness) is not for ever and begin to fear the word ‘housing list’, second years regret their five committee posts, and hear the words ‘library’ and ‘workload’ for the first time (OK … maybe I just had a fun first year), and third years, myself included think of desperate measures to hang around as a student for ever more, and seem horrified as all their friends get jobs, and houses. It goes on and on.

Through all this mindless stress it is so comforting to be a Christian in my experience. To know that we are not alone in these minor trials and tribulations can, if you let it, be a real boost. The Bible can provide some real words of comfort. In Romans 8:28, it says … we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him. A statement that I find very encouraging when I face things I am unsure about.

However you’re feeling, just remember that God has His plan for you, despite the way things appear. It may seem a strange passage to quote from, but as it says in Ecclesiastes, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the sun”. Whether things are good, or bad, God’s got it covered.

God Bless,

Caz
