Thinker Live

At Vanbrugh Stalls …

The results of a term of asking difficult questions!

Christis asks: Should Section 28 (which forbids promotion of homosexuality in schools) be repealed? And is this a religious issue?

"Although not necessarily a religious issue (unless made so,) this is an issue of ethics and of one group attempting to dictate the ethics of another. Either it should be a crime to promote any sexuality or it should not be a crime to promote any. Individuals should have freedom of choice and freedom of information."

(Of previous comment)
"This is the nub of the matter; not sexuality so much as justice."

(Of previous comment)
"And if justice is not a religious issue I don't know what is!"

"Homosexuals were put in concentration camps along with Jews and gypsies during the Holocaust. It's so good that today's society has become more tolerant, however we seem to have confused tolerance with moral judgement."

The Thinker

"The Bible clearly talks about homosexuality as being an unhealthy relationship, so from a Christian point of view the promotion of homosexuality in schools would be akin to the promotion of self-harm."

"It should definitely be repealed. To keep knowledge from children regarding any aspect of life or lifestyle must surely be a dangerous thing?"

"It is important that children from all family backgrounds - divorce, homosexual parents etc. and all sexualities feel accepted and loved, and that there is nothing wrong with their family if it is in love."

"Yes, it should be repealed. It is quite simply ridiculous to argue that this clause would encourage children to be homosexual. Your sexuality is part of who you are! It is not a matter of choice. Surely it is blatantly unfair to discrimate against people on account of their identity which they cannot change."
