It may seem odd to talk of brokenness and healing for a magazine, but for Christis I think it is just. Since last autumn term, we have come to know our own brokenness, our need for improvement in layout and balance of content, and our decision to embrace this was most fully expressed in the relaunch last issue. Issue 66 wasn’t perfect — of course — but we believe it was an improvement, and we are trying to continue the process of rebirth with this issue, produced on new software, and with our website.
Our experience of tackling our need to improve and be remade shows that embracing brokenness can be a drawn out and painful process. It has taken us almost three terms so far, which has included discontent, agreement, many meetings and debates both publicly and privately, and a lot of late nights in computer rooms, exultant or cursing, or trying to decide which. But I said ‘so far’, because it is not finished, and needs continuation. Many of us will be leaving at the end of June, and so Christis needs people to take our places. We have begun trying to approach fulfilling Christis’ potential; begun healing work, if you like. If you feel you can contribute to this process, in any way at all, please come and join. That contribution could mean submitting unsolicited articles (or cartoons, or poems, or short stories), attending meetings to help us discuss ideas, helping us produce the magazine on computer, responding to a request from us for an article, or even being elected on to the committee. Whatever your talent, we can use it. Lastly, I want to salute all those talents that we have used over the past months: Tom Cooper, Max Spicer, Clare Richardson, Matt Campbell, Annette Cooper, Matt Topping, Peter Tylor, Rachel Cavill, John Cook, Karen Breslin, Vicki Russell-Smith, Al Disley (in no particular order), plus anyone I’ve forgotten. Because of my own problems I’ve not done anywhere near as much as I’d have liked to for Christis, so those named have had even more work to do.
Thank you all.
