Welcome to Issue 73

Everybody's talkin'

Welcome to the last issue of Christis this year. Although as a first year I haven’t really seen issues from times past, I think you’ll agree that Christis has come a long way this year. I expect those around at this time last year hardly expected such a high quality publication (with glossy cover!) to re-establish itself quite so successfully. A round of applause for all those who have been involved, especially those responsible for the design and production.

This issue of Christis is dominated by feedback that we’ve received from you, the readership. It makes me glad that Christis is a forum where views can not only be aired, but also responded to. The letters we’ve chosen contain both praise and detailed criticism. Unfortunately, for reasons of space we were unable to include a few letters covering similar subjects.

Several of these letters cover Michael Puljic’s article In Defense of Mary, which was misleadingly subtitled in a way that suggested what Michael was saying was the exact belief of the Catholic Church. That is not the case, and regrettably some people were offended. That subtitle was the creation of the Christis team, who didn’t fully understand how important such a small sentence could be. We do apologise for any misunderstanding — and we’ll try better to spot things like that in the future.

Being the end of the academic year, we’re going to be losing a number of active members who are graduating, so it is more important than ever that new people do get involved in Christis. We really would welcome those who would like to write, design or have some other input into the magazine. Come along to our meetings, drop us an email, or see us on Vanbrugh Stalls and Freshers’ Fair in October. The deadline for the first issue of next term (with a much higher circulation than other issues) is provisionally the end of this term.

God bless,
Ian Miller
