The Thinker

Which do you think is the single most important campaign for Christians to support in today’s world and why?

For me the answer has to be trade. The last round of global trade negotiations in 1994 left Africa $300–$600 million per year worse off. That’s an awful lot of money, it’s an area where we could have a really positive impact on billions of people worldwide.

Those campaigns which try to right the wrongs, which we’ve brought into the world, i.e. things like debt-relief rather than things like national disaster relief.

If I say it is the Fair Trade movement do I get a free Dubble bar?

Cancellation of Third World Debt. Ending it would end the suffering and deaths of millions.

As Jesus came to give life in its fullness, any action which degrades Human dignity must be opposed and campaigned against

I think that the drop the debt campaign is the most important because Christians should try to reach out and help as many people as possible and by cancelling world debt so many people’s lives can be changed for the better.

Next Issue’s Thinker: “If God were like a vegetable, which would S/He be and why?”

Thinker responses should be no more than fifty words long and should be emailed to us at submissions@christis.org.uk, or put in our pigeon hole in the SU centre on campus.
