Editorial

I was going to use this editorial to write something profound about Lent. Sadly though, you’re going to be denied my pearls of wisdom, because some very exciting things have happened to Christis over the last few weeks, and I have a lot of thank yous to say.

Most exciting of all, Christis now has its very own computer! To understand how fantastic this is, I think you probably have to have been to a production meeting that’s taken place in someone’s bedroom on the other side of York in the middle of the night, or run from Fulford to campus at 5 am to use a printer and woken up in Derwent computer room three hours later, or been so frustrated that you wanted to kick the wall when the laptop that you’re using crashes for the twelfth time because for some reason it just hates you.

However, thanks to the delightful combination of Benedict Ibbs and the Computer Recycling Project, we have an all-singing, all-dancing computer that (more importantly than the singing or dancing) actually runs our software. And, thanks to URY, we have somewhere to put it. Fun as it has been to spend the last year creating Christis in a bedroom in Fulford, this situation is much more practical, and feels much more professional. The current production team — who have been amazingly calm not quite knowing where they’ll be going next — finally have somewhere to work, and (I’m sure to his great delight) Paul Harford is no longer having to relinquish his bedroom to Christis production twice a term. People have been incredibly generous with their time and space, and remarkably forgiving when I’ve shouted at them because I want everything done NOW.

So, thank you to Benedict; the Computer Recycling Project; Chris, Greg, David and Lizzie (the current production team); Paul and Rick (last year’s team); Rachael, whose room we stole for the last issue; Matt and URY; everyone who continues to supply us with articles; and finally, to God who has answered a whole multitude of our prayers for Christis over the last month.
